DREW MIXON WINS IFA KAYAK TOUR REGIONAL EVENT PRESENTED BY HOBIE AT TITUSVILLE, FLA.

DREW MIXON WINS IFA KAYAK TOUR REGIONAL EVENT PRESENTED BY HOBIE AT TITUSVILLE, FLA.
Regional winner takes home $2,000 first-place prize

LIZELLA, Ga.  (September 10, 2012) – Drew Mixon, of Vero Beach, Fla., caught a redfish and speckled sea trout that measured a combined 48.68 inches in length to win the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour presented by Hobie Fishing regional event at Titusville, Fla., on August 26. The event, which operated out of Sand Point Park, was the first regional event for the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour.

Mixon, in his second year fishing the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour, fought 20-30 mph winds to catch his limit. Fishing with top-water baits, the angler credits his winning catch to good luck.

“I fished the grass flats in the Indian River at Vero Beach,’” Mixon said. “The wind was up and there were two-foot chops with rain. It was pure luck that I caught the winning fish.”

Mixon added to his winnings with the $400.00 Hobie Top Angler Award for having the highest place finish for an angler competing in a Hobie Kayak.

Originally slotted as the second-place winner, Cameron Schurlknight realized post event he had inadvertently broken an IFA Kayak Fishing Tour tournament rule and shortly there after returned his tournament check and plaque. This self-reported rules violation disqualified Schurlknight from the tournament. Jason Broach and Kelly Phillips were subsequently bumped from third and fourth places to second and third places, respectively.

Broach, also from Vero Beach, Fla., brought a 29-inch redfish and a 16.13-inch trout to the scales to ultimately win the $1,000 second-place prize. The angler took home an additional $100 for winning the Berkley Gulp! Big Redfish Award.

“The rain was expected,” Broach said. “I fished top-water baits and chatterbaits over some grass flats in the Fort Pierce area. I had a good feeling going into the tournament. I thought I had a good chance to be in the top five.”

Kelly Phillips measured a total of 45.13 inches for the third-place prize of $500.

Seventh-place finisher Stephen Yurkevich won the $100 Berkley Gulp! Trout Award for his 23.63-inch speckled sea trout.

Coby Pawlowski won the $100 Jr. Angler Award.

IFA Redfish Tour teams and IFA Kayak Fishing Tour anglers must have fished two IFA qualifying events to participate in the regional event. All IFA Redfish Tour teams and IFA Kayak Fishing Tour anglers that fish at least two regular-season events and at least one Regional tournament will be qualified automatically to compete in the no-entry-fee championship.

TEAM DUFRENE/CEDOTAL WINS IFA REDFISH TOUR PRESENTED BY CABELA’S AT PANAMA CITY BEACH, FLA.

Team takes home new Ranger Banshee Extreme with tournament victory

LIZELLA, Ga.  (June 27, 2012) – Chad Dufrene, of Purvis, Miss., and Jay Cedotal, of Prairieville, La., weighed in a two-redfish limit that totaled 13.68 pounds to win the IFA Redfish Tour event at Panama City Beach, Fla., on June 23. To win the event, which operated out of Bay Point Marina, the duo topped a large field of two-angler teams to take home a new, fully-rigged Ranger Banshee Extreme powered by a 60-horsepower, four-stroke Yamaha outboard and equipped with a Power-Pole shallow water anchor, Minn Kota trolling motor, Humminbird electronics, Blue Point Fabrication metal work, Bob’s four-inch Ultra Light Jackplate, and a Loadmaster trailer valued at $30,000.

The winning team is no stranger to winning on the IFA Redfish Tour. The anglers took first place at last year’s event in Panama City and have previously won Team of the Year titles in 2008 and 2009.

“We ran about 75 miles east, and had some early rain,” Dufrene said. “but it was expected with the storm approaching from the Gulf.”

The anglers tight lined Gulp! to catch their limit. Their 7.85-kicker redfish won the $500 Berkeley Gulp! Big Fish Award plus a $250 Cabela’s gift card, courtesy of Berkley. The team also took home the $1,000 Cabela’s Angler Cash Award.

Second-place finishers, Shawn Mistovich and Justin Hinote, both of Milton, Fla., brought 11.82 pounds to the scales. In their second year fishing the IFA Redfish Tour, the anglers ran 50 mile to fish the Port St. Joe area.

“It was overcast and we had light winds with a few showers,” Mistovich said. “The conditions actually helped. We just kept chunking and winding Gulp! jigheads.”

Brad Henry, of Dawson, Ga., and Jason Bryan, of Albany, Ga., weighed 11.58 pounds of redfish to win the third place prize. Fishing in the North Bay area, Henry and Bryan concentrated their efforts on main points with jerkbaits and spoons. The anglers reported high water, rain and windy conditions that moved the fish around.

“We fished better than expected after catching a lot of overs and unders,” said Henry. “but overall we were happy to place third.”

TEAM NELSON/NELSON WINS IFA REDFISH TOUR PRESENTED BY CABELA’S AT DELACROIX, LA.

Team takes home new Ranger Banshee Extreme with tournament victory

LIZELLA, Ga.  (June 20, 2012) – Wes Nelson and Blake Nelson, both of Niceville, Fla., weighed in a two-redfish limit that totaled 15.87 pounds to win the IFA Redfish Tour event at Delacroix, La., on June 16. To win the event, which operated out of Sweetwater Marina, the duo topped a large field of two-angler teams to take home a new, fully-rigged Ranger Banshee Extreme powered by a 60-horsepower, four-stroke Yamaha outboard and equipped with a Power-Pole shallow water anchor, Minn Kota trolling motor, Humminbird electronics, Blue Point Fabrication metal work, Bob’s four-inch Ultra Light Jackplate, and a Loadmaster trailer valued at $30,000.

The team experienced stronger than expected winds while running 10 miles. Fishing spinner baits and Gulp!, the anglers found protected banks and casted with the wind.

“The wind picked up, pushing the water level up later in the day,” Nelson said. “So we switched from sight-casting to blind-casting, but we got it done.”

The winning team took home an additional $1,000 for the Cabela’s Angler Cash Award.

Second-place finishers, Sean O’Connell, of Mandeville, La., and Bruce Lindheim, of Pensacola, Fla., brought 15.27 pounds to the scales by sight-fishing with spinner baits and soft plastic shrimp. The team ran 15 miles, fishing the Delacroix area.

“We had tough windy conditions with an overcast sky, making it tough to sight-cast,” O’Connell said. “We fished well together and kept each other calm despite the rough conditions.”

Wayne Juneau, of Mandeville, La., and Matt Perez, of Metairie, La., brought in their two-redfish limit for a total weight of 15.08 pounds to take the third-place prize. The anglers blind-casted Berkley Gulp! in nearby Spanish Bay and Little Lake.

Tenth-place finishers, Chad Dufrene and Jay Cedotal, brought in a 9-pound redfish and won the $500 Berkley Gulp! Big Fish Award plus a $250 Cabela’s gift card, courtesy of Berkley.

The IFA Redfish Tour Presented by Cabela’s continues to draw redfish anglers from Texas to the Carolinas and beyond, offering two-angler teams the opportunity to compete in six different divisions, each offering a two-event regular season. Low entry fees for the one-day, regular-season tournaments allows anglers to fish close to home and minimize expenses, while still being a part of a premier inshore, catch-and-release redfish tournament organization. Teams fishing any two of the IFA’s 12 regular-season events and one regional event are automatically qualified for a no-entry-fee championship event, pitting qualifiers from each of the six divisions for a combined $118,450 in payouts and prize packages, as well as a shot at the coveted Cabela’s Overall Divisional Team of the Year Award for the six regular-season division winners.

In addition to a possible $60,000 in payouts per event (based on a 100-boat field), the first-place prize package for all 12 IFA Redfish Tour regular-season events remains extremely lucrative. In 2012, every regular-season tournament winner is guaranteed – regardless of field size – a fully loaded 2012 Ranger Banshee Extreme. The boat is powered by a 60-horsepower, four-stroke Yamaha outboard and is equipped with a Power-Pole shallow water anchor, Minn Kota trolling motor, Humminbird electronics, Blue Point Fabrication metal work, Bob’s four-inch Ultra Light Jackplate and a Loadmaster trailer. The entire first-place prize package is valued at $30,000.
